The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional
- Locate the small plastic cap on the center console near the gear selector buttons, typically to the lower right side of the button cluster
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cap
- Insert the vehicle's emergency key blade or a small flathead screwdriver into the shift lock override slot revealed beneath the cap
- While pressing down or holding the override mechanism, press the Auto button to attempt to release the transmission lock
- If no electrical power is available and the override does not mechanically release the transmission, the vehicle must be placed on a flatbed with all four wheels OFF the ground - the dual-clutch transmission cannot be safely flat-towed
