The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and attempt to engage the parking brake if functional.
- If the battery has any charge, turn the ignition to the ON position using the start button without pressing the brake pedal.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Locate the shift-lock override—look for a small cap or cover near the shifter base on the center console.
- Remove the cap using a trim tool or small flathead screwdriver.
- Insert a screwdriver or similar tool into the exposed override slot and press down while simultaneously moving the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- If the vehicle has zero electrical power, skip the ignition step and proceed directly to the mechanical override method.
- Once in Neutral, ensure the electronic parking brake is released (may require battery power or jump start) before attempting to move the vehicle.
- The vehicle can then be winched onto a flatbed.
