⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- Turn the ignition to the ON position if battery power is available (do not start the engine)
- Firmly depress the brake pedal
- Locate the shift lock override - look for a small rectangular or circular cover/cap near the base of the shifter assembly on the console
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover
- Insert the screwdriver or a key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shift lever toward you and moving it to Neutral
- If successful, the shifter will release and move to N
- The vehicle can now be moved or loaded onto a flatbed
Shift-lock override location
Small cover cap located near the base of the shifter console, typically on the right side or front of the shifter base
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery: the shift lock override is mechanical and will still function. However, you may need to manually unlock the steering column. Some Panda models may require jump-starting or connecting a battery charger to provide minimal power to release the electronic parking brake if equipped. If the electronic parking brake cannot be released, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels free.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
This hybrid model has a 12V battery that powers all electronic systems including the shift lock. Ensure the high-voltage hybrid system is OFF before attempting to move the vehicle. Do not attempt to tow with driven wheels on the ground - flatbed transport only to avoid damage to the hybrid drive system.
