🚨 2009 Ford Flex: Emergency Neutral
The 2009 Ford Flex uses a floor-mounted console shifter with electronic shift interlock tied to the brake-light switch.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and wheels are chocked.
- Turn the ignition to the ACC or ON position if battery power is available.
- Locate the shift lock override access near the shifter base on the right side (passenger side) of the shifter assembly.
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to carefully pry off the small rectangular trim cap adjacent to the shifter base.
- Insert the screwdriver into the exposed override slot and push down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the shifter release button and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If no battery power is available, connect an external 12V power source (jumper pack or another vehicle) to restore electrical power, then follow the override procedure.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shift interlock requires electrical power to function even with manual override on this generation. Connect a jump pack or jumper cables to provide 12V power to the vehicle, then use the shift lock override. The engine does not need to run.
