🚨 2024 Ford Kuga PL: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 Ford Kuga uses a conventional center-console mounted electronic shift-by-wire lever with a button on the side for shifting.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON/ACC position if 12V power is available (hybrid system does not need to be READY).
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Press the shifter button on the side of the lever and move the shifter to N (Neutral).
- If the shifter will not move due to failed shift interlock, locate the shift lock override slot.
- The override access is typically a small covered slot near the base of the shifter assembly on the console—check directly forward or to the right side of the shifter base for a small rectangular cap.
- Pry off the cap carefully with a flat blade screwdriver or trim tool.
- Insert a screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving to N.
- If the vehicle still will not shift, proceed to no-power procedure.
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot near the shifter base on the center console, typically forward or right side of the shifter assembly—exact location may vary by trim; remove small rectangular cap to access
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter will not release. You must jump-start the 12V battery (located in the engine bay) to at least ACC power to unlock the shifter, then use the override procedure above. If jump-starting is not possible, the vehicle must be winched onto a flatbed with all wheels on the ground or dollies under the front wheels.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID WARNING: This is a hybrid vehicle. Even with the hybrid system OFF, the electric motor may engage if the vehicle is rolled with drive wheels on the ground and the transmission not in N. Always ensure the shifter is in N and the 12V system has at least ACC power before moving. For flatbed recovery with dead battery: load with all four wheels off the ground or use wheel dollies. Do NOT tow with drive wheels on pavement unless confirmed in Neutral.
