🚨 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 Mustang Mach-E uses an electronic rotary gear selector dial on the center console with Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive positions.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- With 12V power available, press the brake pedal and push the vehicle start button to enter accessory mode (do NOT put the vehicle in READY mode)
- While holding the brake pedal, rotate the gear selector dial counterclockwise from Park to Neutral
- The instrument cluster should display 'N' confirming Neutral selection
- If the dial will not rotate due to shift interlock, locate the small shift lock override button—it is located on the lower front edge of the center console, below and slightly forward of the rotary dial
- Press and hold the override button while rotating the dial to Neutral
- Once in Neutral, the parking brake may need to be released electronically (this requires 12V power and accessory mode)
- Verify Neutral on the display before attempting to move the vehicle

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the electronic rotary shifter and shift lock system will not function. You MUST provide 12V power via jump-start, battery charger, or portable jump pack to enter accessory mode and release the shift lock. Without any power, the transmission remains locked in Park and cannot be mechanically overridden without extensive disassembly. The Mach-E also has an electronic parking brake that requires 12V power to release—you cannot simply push the vehicle even in Neutral without releasing the EPB first.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Mustang Mach-E is a full electric vehicle. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground. The electric motors are directly connected to the wheels, and towing with wheels down—even in Neutral—will rotate the motors and can cause severe damage to the drive units and high-voltage system, potentially creating a fire hazard. FLATBED TRANSPORT ONLY. When loading onto a flatbed, the vehicle must be in Neutral and the electronic parking brake must be released (requires 12V power). If 12V power is not available and the EPB cannot be released, the vehicle may need to be winched onto the flatbed with rear wheels locked. Consult Ford's official towing procedures for the Mach-E before moving the vehicle.
