🚨 2018 Ford Transit: Emergency Neutral
The 2018 Ford Transit uses a traditional floor-mounted console shifter with a button-release mechanism on the side of the lever.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (or press the START button without the brake pedal to reach accessory mode) if battery power is available.
- Locate the shift lock override slot—it is a small rectangular cap on the right side of the shifter base, near the console trim.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the lever to Neutral.
- If the vehicle must be moved with the engine off, keep the key in the ON position or have someone hold the override tool down while steering (power steering will not function).

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, you cannot turn the ignition to ON. Use the shift lock override as described, but be aware that without ignition power, the shifter interlock may still resist—apply firm, steady pressure on the override while manipulating the shifter button and lever. The steering wheel will be locked; you may need a second person to help guide the vehicle or use a tow dolly/flatbed.
