⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked
  2. Turn ignition key to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge (this releases shift lock electronically)
  3. If ignition has no effect, locate the small shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, adjacent to the shifter lever itself
  4. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the vehicle key into the override slot
  5. Press down firmly on the override while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral
  6. Keep pressure on override until shifter is fully in Neutral position
  7. Vehicle can now be pushed or winched onto flatbed

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the mechanical shift lock override must be used. The override slot remains accessible and functional without any battery power. The steering wheel will remain locked unless the key is in the ACC position, which may require a small amount of residual battery voltage.
