The procedure
- Ensure parking brake is firmly engaged and vehicle is on level ground
- Turn ignition key to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the shift lock button on the shifter handle and move to Neutral
- If shift lock button will not release due to electrical fault, locate the shift lock override slot in the shifter console
- The override slot is typically a small covered opening near the base of the shifter on the right side or front of the console
- Remove the small cover cap using a flathead screwdriver or by prying gently
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot
- Press down firmly on the override while pressing the shifter button and moving to Neutral
- Once in Neutral, vehicle can be pushed or loaded onto flatbed
