🚨 2024 GMC Savana: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 Savana continues with a traditional column-mounted shifter with button-activated shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and wheels are chocked
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the lower right side of the column shroud, near where the shifter meets the column
- Remove the small plastic access cover (it may pop off with gentle prying or pull straight out)
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver, trim tool, or key into the override slot
- Press down or push in the override mechanism firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and pulling the shifter toward you to Neutral
- If successful, the shifter will move freely to Neutral; if battery has some power, you may hear a click
- Keep the override depressed until the shifter is fully in Neutral position

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock override is mechanical and will still function. You will not be able to turn the ignition to ACC, but the mechanical override alone should release the shifter. You may need to apply more force to the override mechanism without power assist. Ensure someone is ready to apply brakes as the steering and brake boost will not function.
