🚨 2015 GMC Yukon: Emergency Neutral
The 2015 GMC Yukon uses a traditional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift lock controlled by the brake-light circuit.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining (this may allow normal brake-pedal shifting).
- If the shifter remains locked, locate the shift lock release access cover—a small rectangular or square cap on the left side of the shifter base, near where the lever enters the console.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the access cover.
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the exposed release slot and press down firmly while pulling the shifter toward you out of Park.
- Move the shifter to Neutral.
- If the vehicle must be towed with no power, ensure it is placed in Neutral using the override; 4WD/AWD models should be towed on a flatbed or with all four wheels off the ground to avoid driveline damage.
Shift-lock override location
Small access cover on the left side of the shifter base near the console; release slot is directly beneath this cover.
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the ignition cannot be turned on and the electronic shifter lock remains engaged. You must use the manual shift lock release override: remove the access cover on the left side of the shifter base and insert a tool into the release slot while moving the shifter to Neutral. The steering wheel will remain locked, so the vehicle can only be pushed/rolled short distances or must be towed.
