⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and set the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to ON (push the start button twice without pressing the brake pedal) to provide power to the shift interlock system.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Press the shift-lock release button (a small plastic cap/button near the base of the shifter on the left side) using a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to depress the mechanical override.
- While holding the override button down and keeping the brake pressed, move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- If the battery is completely dead and the ignition cannot be powered on, you must jump-start the 12V battery or connect an external power source to enable the electronic shifter.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
The electronic shifter requires 12V power to operate. With zero power, you must jump-start the battery or connect a portable jump pack to at least the ON position before the shift-lock override will function.
