🚨 2024 Honda Prologue: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Prologue uses an electronic push-button gear selector system located on the center console with Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive buttons.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the 12-volt battery has at least minimal charge—the push-button system requires electrical power to operate.
  2. If the 12V battery is completely dead, you must jump-start or charge the 12V battery enough to power the gear selector electronics before you can shift out of Park.
  3. Once 12V power is available, press the brake pedal and press the power button to enter Accessory or ON mode (do NOT start the drive system).
  4. Press and hold the Neutral (N) button on the gear selector until the display confirms the vehicle is in Neutral.
  5. The vehicle can now be slowly pushed a short distance or carefully loaded onto a flatbed with all four wheels on the deck.
  6. For distances over a few feet or any towing situation, the vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground—the Prologue is not designed for towing with any wheels on the ground.
With zero electrical power
The Prologue's electronic gear selector requires 12-volt power to function—there is NO mechanical shift lock override like traditional vehicles. With a completely dead 12V battery, you cannot shift out of Park. You must either jump-start the 12V system or charge the 12V battery sufficiently to power the electronics. The 12V battery is located in the rear cargo area under the load floor. Once you have minimal 12V power, you can access Neutral through the push-button selector. The high-voltage traction battery state does not matter for getting into Neutral, only the 12V system.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL EV WARNING: The Prologue is a battery-electric vehicle with an always-engaged single-speed transmission. NEVER tow this vehicle with any wheels on the ground—doing so will rotate the electric motor and generate electricity back into the high-voltage system, potentially causing severe and expensive damage to the drive unit, inverter, and battery system. The vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels secured and off the ground. Pushing the vehicle short distances (a few feet) in Neutral for loading purposes is acceptable, but extended rolling is strictly prohibited. There is no mechanical transmission that can be decoupled—any wheel rotation directly spins the electric motor.
