🚨 2025 Honda Prologue: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Honda Prologue uses an electronic push-button gear selector array on the center console with P-R-N-D buttons.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and set the parking brake if functional
  2. Locate the shift lock release access - look for a small rectangular cover or slot near the base of the gear selector button panel on the center console
  3. Use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the shift lock release cover
  4. With the cover removed, insert a key, screwdriver, or similar tool into the shift lock release slot and press down firmly
  5. While holding the override down, press the N (Neutral) button on the gear selector
  6. Verify the instrument cluster shows N (Neutral) - if the 12V battery is completely dead, you may not see confirmation and will need to follow the no-power procedure below
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the electronic gear selector button panel on the center console, typically covered by a small removable cap
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic gear selector will not function even with the shift lock override. You must either jump-start the 12V battery (located under the hood) to restore minimal power for the gear selector, or prepare for flatbed towing only. DO NOT attempt to push or dolly-tow this EV.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The Prologue is a pure electric vehicle and MUST be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground. Towing with any wheels on the ground will cause severe damage to the electric drive system. There is no mechanical neutral-tow mode. If the high-voltage system is damaged or displaying warnings, do not attempt to move the vehicle yourself - contact Honda roadside assistance or a qualified EV technician.
