The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and set the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to ON (or press the START button twice without pressing the brake pedal) if 12V power is available.
- Locate the shift lock override slot—it is typically a small covered opening near the base of the shifter console, usually on the right side or front edge of the shifter base.
- Remove the cap or cover over the override slot using a flat tool or your fingernail.
- Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the shifter from P to N.
- Release the override tool and replace the cover.
- The vehicle can now be rolled or towed in neutral.
