🚨 2026 Honda Vezel: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Vezel is expected to use a console-mounted shift lever similar to previous years, though specifications are subject to change.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position if battery has any charge (press start button twice without brake pedal)
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot: typically found on the left side of the shifter base, near the shift lever button, under a small cap
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or the mechanical key to pry off the small rubber/plastic cap covering the override slot
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shift lever button and moving the shifter to Neutral
  6. If successful, the shifter will move freely to N; keep the override pressed until the lever is fully in Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Expected to be on the left side of the shifter base near the shift lever button, under a small cap, but verify with owner's manual
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock will not release electronically. The mechanical shift lock override must be used as described above. The override mechanism should be purely mechanical and not require electrical power to function.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
This is expected to be a hybrid vehicle. Before towing, consult the owner's manual for specific hybrid system precautions. Flatbed towing is strongly recommended. If dolly towing, ensure the front wheels (drive wheels) are on the dolly. Never tow with all four wheels on the ground for extended distances as this may damage the hybrid transaxle and electric motor components.
