The 2022 Elantra N uses a console-mounted conventional shifter lever with electronic shift lock (P-R-N-D-S with manual mode).

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available (press START button twice without brake pedal).
- Locate the shift lock override—look for a small rectangular slot with a plastic cap on the console near the shifter base, typically on the left side forward of the shifter.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or key to carefully pry off the plastic cover cap.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter from P to N.
- If no power is available, continue holding override and manually shift to N—the mechanical override bypasses the electronic lock.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the mechanical shift lock override will still function. Use the override slot and manually move the shifter to N without needing brake pedal input or ignition power. The DCT transmission will allow free rolling in N when unpowered.
