🚨 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 Ioniq 5 N is expected to use a column-mounted rotary shifter dial that requires electrical power to operate the transmission electronically.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chocked - the electronic parking brake may not release without power
- Attempt to power up the vehicle: press the brake pedal firmly and push the START button - even with a weak 12V battery, the system may have enough power to shift
- If the vehicle powers on (READY indicator illuminates), press and hold the brake pedal, rotate the shifter dial clockwise to N (neutral), then release the electronic parking brake using the switch on the center console
- If there is NO 12V power at all, you must jump-start the 12V battery (located under the hood, driver's side) or connect an external 12V power source to restore minimal electrical power
- Once 12V power is restored, follow step 3 to shift to neutral and release the parking brake
- If the 12V battery cannot be revived and the vehicle must be moved immediately, it MUST be loaded onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, there is no mechanical shift lock override - the rotary shifter is fully electronic with no manual bypass. The 12V battery MUST be jump-started or replaced to shift out of Park. The electronic parking brake also requires 12V power to release. Hyundai does not provide a manual shift lock release for this system.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Ioniq 5 N is a full battery-electric vehicle with dual motors and a single-speed reduction gear. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground - the motors will act as generators and can cause severe electrical system damage. Use flatbed transport ONLY with all four wheels off the ground. If pushing the vehicle after achieving neutral, be aware the electronic parking brake may automatically re-engage if 12V power is lost or if the vehicle is left unattended.
