🚨 2026 Hyundai Nexo: Emergency Neutral
The Nexo uses an electronic push-button gear selector with P, R, N, D buttons located on the center console.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Turn the ignition to ON/ACC mode (press start button without brake pedal, or use the manual emergency start procedure if battery is dead)
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the N (Neutral) button on the gear selector panel
- If the electronic system is completely non-responsive, access the manual shift-lock release located under a small cap on the lower right side of the gear selector button panel
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to press the shift-lock override while simultaneously pressing the N button
- Vehicle must be on a flatbed for towing - this is a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle with no traditional neutral coast mode

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the Nexo cannot be shifted electronically. You must use the shift-lock override slot (under the small cap near the gear buttons) while attempting to restore minimal 12V power via jump-start to enable the N button. Without any power, the vehicle cannot truly be shifted and must be dollied or flatbedded.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Nexo is a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle. Do NOT tow with wheels on the ground. The electric drive system can be damaged if wheels rotate while not in proper tow mode. Always use a flatbed or wheel-lift towing method with rear wheels off the ground. Consult the owner's manual for high-voltage system safety precautions before any towing operation.
