⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged
- Turn the ignition to ON/ACC mode (press start button twice without pressing brake pedal)
- Press and hold the brake pedal
- Press the shift lever release button and move the shifter to N
- If brake pedal does not release the shift lock, locate the shift-lock override slot: it is under a small rectangular cap directly adjacent to the shifter base on the left side (driver's side)
- Remove the cap by prying gently with a flathead screwdriver or key blade
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the shifter release button and move to N

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, you cannot activate the ignition. Use a jump-start pack or jumper cables to provide minimal 12V power to enable ACC mode. Once you have ACC power, use the shift-lock override procedure above. The override releases the mechanical lock even without full electrical power, but you need at least ACC mode for the transmission to recognize neutral position.
