🚨 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 Santa Fe Hybrid transitioned to the fifth-generation platform and uses an electronic console-mounted shift lever with updated design.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button twice without brake pedal if you have any 12V power).
- Locate the shift lock override slot - look for a small rectangular access covered by a removable cap on the left side of the shifter base or integrated into the console trim surrounding the shifter.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the key or screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If the battery is completely dead and the shifter will not release with the override alone, jump-start the 12V battery briefly to provide minimal power, then use the override procedure.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shift-by-wire system is locked. Attempt the mechanical override first, but if unsuccessful, jump-starting the 12V battery to provide minimal power to the shift lock solenoid is typically required. Once in Neutral, disconnect the jump source before towing.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID CRITICAL: Before towing, ensure the hybrid system is completely OFF (not in READY mode). For flatbed towing, all four wheels on the bed is the safest method. For dolly towing, only front wheels up is acceptable - NEVER tow with rear wheels on ground and front wheels rolling, as this will damage the hybrid transmission and electric motor components. Any towing beyond short distances (under 50 miles) or above 30 mph MUST be flatbed only.
