🚨 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid uses an electronic shift-by-wire push-button shifter system located on the center console.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and parking brake is engaged (if functional).
- If the 12V battery has ANY charge, press the brake pedal and press the Power button twice WITHOUT pressing the brake to enter Accessory mode.
- With power in Accessory mode, press and hold the brake pedal, then press the P button to ensure the transmission is in Park.
- Locate the shift lock override: a small rectangular slot with a removable cap on the lower right side of the shifter button panel.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or key to remove the override cap.
- Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while pressing the N (Neutral) button simultaneously.
- The transmission should now shift to Neutral. The indicator will show N on the instrument cluster if power is available.
- If moving the vehicle more than a short distance, you MUST enable Tow Mode (see noPowerNotes for details).

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter buttons will not function at all. You must jump-start the 12V battery (located under the hood) to at least Accessory mode to use the shift lock override. Once in Neutral with some power available, you should enable Tow Mode: with the vehicle powered on in Accessory or ON mode, press and hold both the P and N buttons simultaneously for several seconds until the display confirms Tow Mode is active. This disengages the parking pawl fully and allows free rolling.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: This hybrid has a complex drivetrain with electric motors. If the 12V battery is completely dead and cannot be jumped, the parking pawl may remain engaged and the vehicle CANNOT be safely flat-towed or dollied with front wheels down. FLATBED ONLY if 12V power cannot be restored. Attempting to tow without Tow Mode enabled or with the hybrid system engaged can cause severe transmission and electric motor damage exceeding $10,000. Tow Mode MUST be activated if moving under power; without it, regenerative braking may engage unexpectedly.
