⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is firmly engaged.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (press START button twice without pressing the brake pedal) to provide power to the shifter electronics.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Press the button on the side of the shifter and move it to the N position.
- If the shifter will not move due to shift interlock failure, locate the shift lock release slot with a small rubber cap on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to pry off the rubber cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the release slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving to N.
- Keep the brake pedal depressed throughout this process.

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the electronic shift-by-wire system will not function. The shift lock override will also not work without 12V power. You must jump-start the vehicle or connect a battery maintainer to provide at least some electrical power to the shifter module before the override will release the shifter. Once minimal power is available, use the override slot procedure above.
