🚨 2022 Hyundai Tucson: Emergency Neutral

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Attempt to power the vehicle to ACC or ON mode by pressing the START button without the brake pedal (requires minimal 12V power).
- Press the brake pedal and shift to Neutral normally if any power is available.
- If no power or shift-lock is stuck, locate the shift-lock override access cover on the left side of the shifter base.
- Remove the small rectangular plastic cap (it may require prying with a flathead screwdriver or pulling firmly).
- Insert a flathead screwdriver or the emergency key into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, pull the shifter toward you to disengage from Park into Neutral.
- Keep the shifter in Neutral position; it may be spring-loaded and want to return to Park.

With zero electrical power
The shift-lock override is mechanical and will work with zero electrical power. Simply remove the override cover, insert a tool into the slot, press down, and shift to Neutral. The hybrid system does not need to be initialized for this mechanical release to function.

CRITICAL: The Tucson Hybrid MUST be transported on a flatbed truck only. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground. The electric motor/generator is directly connected to the transmission and front wheels. Any wheel rotation during towing will spin the motor, generate high voltage, and cause catastrophic damage to the hybrid system even in Neutral.
