🚨 2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo: Emergency Neutral

The 2015 Veloster Turbo DCT uses a traditional console-mounted shift lever with a linear gate pattern (P-R-N-D with manual mode).

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and the vehicle is on level ground
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
  4. Locate the shift lock release cover—a small rectangular cap on the left side of the shifter base, toward the driver's side of the console
  5. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the shift lock release cover
  6. Insert the screwdriver or a key into the shift lock release slot and push down firmly
  7. While holding the release down, press the shifter button and move the shifter to Neutral
  8. If successful, the shifter will move freely to N; release the override and remove the tool

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift lock override slot is purely mechanical and will still function. You do not need any electrical power to use the override—simply access the slot under the cover, push down with a tool, and shift to Neutral. The DCT transmission will be in true neutral mechanically once the shifter is moved.
