⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small rectangular cap directly to the left of the shift lever base on the console, near the driver's side
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or key to pry off the small rectangular override cap
- Insert a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool straight down into the exposed override slot
- While holding the tool pressed down in the override slot, press the shift lever button and move the lever to Neutral
- If the battery is completely dead and the electronic parking brake is engaged, you may need to jump-start the 12V battery momentarily to release the EPB before the vehicle can roll

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock override will allow moving to Neutral, but the electronic parking brake (EPB) will remain locked. You must provide temporary 12V power (jump pack or jumper cables) to release the EPB before the vehicle can roll. Once EPB is released and shifter is in Neutral, the car can be loaded onto a flatbed even without power.
