🚨 2015 Infiniti Q50: Emergency Neutral
The 2015 Q50 Hybrid uses a console-mounted electronic shifter with shift-by-wire technology and electronic parking brake.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface - the electronic parking brake may not hold reliably with dead battery
- Chock all wheels securely - this is critical as EPB may release unexpectedly
- Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the START button (without pressing brake pedal to get accessory mode)
- If the system powers on, press and hold the brake pedal, then shift to Neutral using the normal shifter movement
- If no power is available, locate the shift lock release: remove the small trim panel on the right side of the shifter base (it may be in front of or behind the shifter)
- Insert a flathead screwdriver into the revealed override slot and press down
- While holding the override, manipulate the shifter to Neutral position
- For hybrid system: if the 12V battery is dead but hybrid battery is charged, connecting jump cables may wake the vehicle systems enough to shift normally

With zero electrical power
The Q50 Hybrid's shift-by-wire system is heavily electronic. With zero 12V power, even the override may not fully release the transmission. A jump pack or charger is strongly recommended to provide minimal power. The electronic parking brake will NOT hold without power and may release unexpectedly - wheel chocks are absolutely mandatory. The hybrid system's high-voltage battery is separate from the 12V system and cannot directly help without 12V power to the control modules.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: This hybrid must be transported on a flatbed with all wheels OFF the ground. The electric motor is directly connected to the drivetrain, and towing with any wheels down will generate electricity back into the system, potentially causing severe damage to the hybrid system and creating a fire risk. Even in Neutral, do not tow this vehicle - flatbed only. The electronic parking brake requires 12V power to reliably engage or release.
