The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Locate the shift lock override - look for a small rectangular cap or slot on the upper left side of the shifter surround, just forward of the shift knob base
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the mechanical key blade to pry off the cap if present
- Insert the tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the tool down in the override position, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
- If completely dead, maintain downward pressure on the override while firmly pulling the shifter - you may need to apply significant force
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded

With zero 12V power, insert the tool into the shift lock override slot and apply firm downward pressure while pulling the shifter toward Neutral.
