The 2020 QX60 (gas version) uses a traditional console-mounted shift lever with electronic shift lock controlled by the brake pedal interlock system.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake fully
- Turn the ignition to ON position if battery has any charge (press START button twice without brake pedal)
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, covered by a small rectangular cap
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the shift lock override cap
- Insert the key blade or small flathead screwdriver straight down into the override slot
- While holding the override pressed down firmly, press the shifter button and move the shifter to Neutral
- If successful, the shifter will move freely to N without brake pedal pressure
- Replace the override cap after shifting
Shift-lock override location
Left side of the shifter base near the driver's knee, under a small removable rectangular cap approximately 0.5 inches wide
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the shift lock override will mechanically release the shifter. Use the override slot method described above to move to Neutral. If the override does not work with zero power, jump-starting the 12V battery (located under hood) will restore normal shifter function. Once in Neutral with parking brake released, the vehicle can be pushed short distances or loaded onto flatbed.
