The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake fully
- If battery has partial charge, press the START button twice without brake pedal to reach ON/Accessory mode
- With ignition ON, press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the P button on the shifter to ensure Park is engaged, then press the gear selector button or move lever to Neutral position
- If shifter responds, you should see N displayed on the instrument cluster
- If no electrical power at all, locate the manual shift lock release access point in the center console
- Remove the small cover panel near the shifter base (consult owner's manual for exact location as this is a new generation)
- Insert the key blade or small tool into the release mechanism and follow the mechanical override procedure
