⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied and the vehicle is on level ground or properly secured
- Locate the shift lock override slot - it is a small rectangular slot with a plastic cap on the lower left side of the rotary shifter base in the center console
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the plastic cap covering the override slot
- Insert the key blade or screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if you have any electrical power) and rotate the gear selector counterclockwise to the Neutral position
- If you have zero electrical power, the rotary dial will not rise - you must apply 12V power to at least wake the shifter module, or the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with the drive wheels off the ground

With zero 12V power, the rotary shifter remains retracted and cannot be manipulated. You must either jump-start the 12V battery to get minimal power to the shifter module, or load the vehicle onto a flatbed. The F-PACE uses an electronic parking brake that also requires power to release, so flatbed towing with rear wheels up is the safest no-power option.
