🚨 2022 Jaguar F-PACE: Emergency Neutral

The 2022 F-PACE (post-facelift) switched to a conventional console-mounted shift lever with a linear gate.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied and the vehicle is on level ground or properly secured
  2. If the vehicle has any electrical power, turn the ignition to ON (push the start button without pressing the brake pedal)
  3. Locate the shift lock override - it is a small rectangular slot with a removable plastic cap, typically located to the left or right of the shifter base near the bottom of the shift gate
  4. Use a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the plastic cap covering the override slot
  5. Insert the key blade or screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral
  6. If you have zero electrical power, jump-start the 12V battery minimally or use a portable jump pack to provide power to the shift interlock system
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular slot with plastic cap near the base of the shifter, typically to the left or right side of the shift gate
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock solenoid cannot be overridden mechanically on this generation - the system requires at least minimal electrical power. Jump-start the vehicle or use a portable jump pack to provide power. The electronic parking brake also requires power to release. If power cannot be restored, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed.
