🚨 2017 Jaguar F-Type: Emergency Neutral

The 2017 F-Type uses a rotary-dial gear selector that rises from the center console when the ignition is activated.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
  2. Connect a jump-starter or battery charger to the vehicle to restore 12V power—the rotary shifter requires electrical power to operate.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position (push START button without pressing brake pedal twice, or use key fob if battery allows).
  4. The rotary shifter dial will rise from the console.
  5. Press the brake pedal and rotate the dial counterclockwise to N (neutral).
  6. If the brake-light switch has failed and the shift interlock will not release, locate the shift lock override—it is a small rubber cap on the lower left side of the center console near the shifter base.
  7. Use a small flathead screwdriver or key to remove the cap, then insert the tool into the override slot and press down while rotating the dial to neutral.
  8. Once in neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or towed with all four wheels on the ground for short distances at low speed (consult owner's manual for towing limits).

With zero electrical power
The rotary shifter is electrically actuated and WILL NOT operate without 12V power. You must restore power via jump-pack or charger before shifting. If power cannot be restored, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with all wheels off the ground or dollies under the rear wheels. Do not attempt to force the rotary dial.
