🚨 2020 Jaguar I-PACE: Emergency Neutral

The 2020 I-PACE uses an electronic rotary gear selector dial that rises from the center console.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface with wheel chocks in place
  2. Connect a 12V jump pack or jump-start the 12V battery (located under the hood) - the I-PACE requires 12V power for all shifter operations
  3. Press the brake pedal START/STOP button twice without pressing brake to enter Accessory mode, or press once with brake for full ON
  4. The rotary gear selector dial should rise from the console
  5. Rotate the dial counterclockwise to select N (Neutral)
  6. If shift interlock prevents movement despite power and brake pedal pressed, locate the shift lock override
  7. Look for a small rubber cap or cover near the base of the rotary dial assembly on the center console
  8. Remove the cover and insert a small screwdriver or key blade into the override slot, press down while rotating dial to N
  9. For transport: I-PACE MUST be transported on a flatbed truck only - DO NOT tow with any wheels on the ground
  10. Before loading, ensure vehicle is in Neutral and parking brake is released, or follow flatbed operator instructions for winching in Park

With zero electrical power
The I-PACE shifter is fully electronic and requires 12V battery power. With a completely dead 12V battery, you cannot shift out of Park. You must jump-start the 12V battery first. The high-voltage EV battery does not help - the 12V system must be functional.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The I-PACE is an EV with electric motors connected to the wheels. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground. ALWAYS use a flatbed truck. Towing with wheels down will cause severe damage to the electric drive system and will NOT be covered under warranty. If the vehicle cannot be shifted to Neutral and must be winched onto a flatbed while in Park, this is acceptable for short distances at low speed on the flatbed.
