🚨 2011 Jaguar XF: Emergency Neutral
The 2011 XF uses Jaguar's rotary gear selector (JaguarDrive Selector) that rises from the center console when the ignition is activated.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied and the vehicle is on level ground
- Turn the ignition key to position II (or press START without brake pedal) to provide power to the transmission control module - the rotary dial will rise
- Press and hold the brake pedal
- The rotary shifter should now allow rotation to N (neutral) - rotate counterclockwise one position from P
- If the rotary dial does not rise or will not move due to shift interlock failure, locate the shift lock override
- The override access is beneath a small rectangular cover/cap on the center console to the right rear of the rotary dial base
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to carefully pry up this cover
- Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously attempting to rotate the dial to N
- Once in neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular cover on the center console immediately to the right rear of the rotary dial base; override slot beneath requires pressing down while rotating shifter
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the rotary dial will NOT rise from the console. You must first provide external 12V power via jump-start or battery charger to energize the transmission module and allow the dial to rise and unlock. The mechanical override alone will not work without any electrical power to the transmission system.
