🚨 2017 Jaguar XF: Emergency Neutral
The 2017 XF (second-generation X260) uses Jaguar's electronic rotary dial gear selector that rises from the center console when the ignition is on.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and the vehicle is on level ground
- If battery is completely dead, the rotary shifter dial will be flush/retracted into the console—you cannot rotate it normally
- Locate the shift lock override access: look for a small removable cap or access point in the center console area around the gear selector (typically behind or to the side of the dial)
- Remove the cap using a small flathead screwdriver or plastic trim tool
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade into the override release slot
- Press or pull the override mechanism while attempting to manually rotate the dial to the N position
- If the dial will not operate at all with dead battery, provide temporary 12V power via jump-start or battery charger—the second-generation XF's electronic systems typically require some power for the override to function
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled—note that without power, there is no power steering assist

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the rotary dial remains retracted and the electronic shift system is completely inactive. The mechanical override may not function at all without battery voltage—the second-generation XF has a more electronic-dependent shift system than the previous generation. Jump-starting or connecting a battery charger is usually necessary. Allow 2-3 minutes of charging before attempting the override procedure.
