The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied and the vehicle is on level ground.
- If the battery is completely dead, you will need to jump-start the vehicle or connect an external 12V power source to gain electrical power for the shifter system.
- Once power is restored, press the brake pedal and start button to activate accessory mode or start the engine.
- The rotary dial will rise from the console; rotate it counterclockwise to select Neutral (N).
- If the brake-light switch has failed but you have battery power, locate the shift-lock override access - look for a small circular cap or cover near the base of the rotary dial assembly on the console.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to carefully pry off the cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down while rotating the dial to Neutral.
- If the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed without any power restoration, it will need to be winched or dolly-lifted in Park.
