🚨 2010 Jaguar XJ: Emergency Neutral
The 2010 XJ (X351 generation) uses Jaguar's rotary dial gear selector (JaguarDrive Selector) that rises from the center console when the ignition is activated.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied and the vehicle is on level ground.
- If the battery is completely dead, you will need to jump-start the vehicle or connect an external 12V power source to gain electrical power for the shifter system.
- Once power is restored, turn the key to accessory mode or press the start button without pressing the brake pedal to activate electrical systems.
- The rotary dial will rise from the center console automatically.
- Press the brake pedal and rotate the dial counterclockwise to select Neutral (N).
- If the brake-light switch has failed but you have battery power, locate the shift-lock override - there is a small cap near the base of the rotary dial on the center console.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to carefully pry off the cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down while rotating the dial to Neutral.
- If the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed without any power restoration, it will need to be winched or dolly-lifted in Park.

With zero electrical power
The rotary dial shifter is fully electrically operated and will not rise or function without 12V power. You MUST jump-start the vehicle or connect an external battery to operate the transmission. Without power, the transmission remains mechanically locked in Park and the vehicle must be winched onto a flatbed.
