⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- Turn the ignition key to position II (ON) if battery has any power - the X350 is highly electronic
- Locate the shift-lock override access - look for a small cover or slot near the base of the shifter console, typically on the left side forward of the shifter lever
- Remove the cover carefully with a small flathead screwdriver
- Insert a small screwdriver or the emergency key blade into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override, press the release button on the shifter and move the lever to Neutral
- If resistance is encountered, ensure you're pressing the override fully - maintain steady pressure while moving the shifter
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot near the left forward base of the shifter console - location requires inspection as exact placement may vary
With zero electrical power
The X350 generation is highly electronic. With zero electrical power, the mechanical shift-lock override should still function, but the steering lock may be more difficult to disengage. The ignition key must be turned to position II. If completely dead, you may need a jump-start or temporary battery connection to unlock the steering column. The shift override itself is mechanical and does not require power.
