🚨 2026 Jeep Wagoneer S: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Wagoneer S is an all-electric vehicle with an electronic shifter (specific design may be console-mounted lever or electronic selector).

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake
  2. Attempt to power up the vehicle by pressing the brake and pushing the start button if any 12V power remains
  3. If the vehicle powers up, press the brake pedal and select Neutral from the shifter
  4. If no power is available, locate the shift lock override - check the center console area around the shifter base for a small cap-covered slot
  5. Remove the cap and insert a small flathead screwdriver into the override slot
  6. Press down on the override while moving the shifter to Neutral position
  7. If vehicle still cannot be shifted, proceed to Transport Mode activation: access the vehicle's touchscreen if any auxiliary power is available and navigate to Service/Tow Mode settings
  8. If no electrical power at all, the vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground
Shift-lock override location
Likely at the shifter base under a small cap, but exact location not yet confirmed for this new EV model
With zero electrical power
With complete 12V failure on an EV, the high-voltage system cannot engage and the parking pawl may remain locked. The mechanical shift override may work, but if the electronic parking brake is also engaged and non-functional, the vehicle cannot roll. A 12V jump to the auxiliary battery may be required to release systems before towing.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
WARNING: The Wagoneer S is a full EV. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground - the electric drive motors will generate voltage when rotated, potentially damaging the powertrain and creating a fire hazard. Always use a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. If the vehicle must be winched onto a flatbed and will not shift to Neutral, use wheel dollies under the drive wheels.
