🚨 2026 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Wrangler Rubicon 392 uses a traditional PRNDL console-mounted shifter with an electronic shift interlock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON/RUN position (engine does not need to start, but you need electrical power for the shift interlock to release).
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  4. Press the shift lock override button: locate the small rectangular cap/slot on the left side of the shifter base (driver's side of the center console), pry it off with a flathead screwdriver or your finger.
  5. While pressing the brake, insert a screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly.
  6. While holding the override down, move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
  7. Release the override, replace the cap, and the vehicle can now roll or be towed.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, you MUST use the shift lock override. Turn the ignition key to ACC or ON if possible to provide minimal power to the shifter mechanism. If the key will not turn, you may need to jump the 12V battery under the hood first, then follow the override procedure. The shifter will not release from Park without either battery power or mechanical override engagement.
