⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface or properly chocked - this is critical as there is no true mechanical Park pawl engagement without power
- Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the Power button - even with a weak 12V battery, you may get enough power for one shift cycle
- If the system powers on briefly, immediately rotate the dial to N (neutral) while you have power
- If there is absolutely no 12V power, you must jump-start the 12V battery (located under the hood) to energize the electronic shifter - there is no mechanical override release for the rotary dial system
- Once 12V power is restored, press the Power button (brake pedal depressed), then rotate the dial to N
- If the shift-by-wire system is completely failed (not just low battery), the vehicle cannot be shifted and must be flatbed towed with all four wheels off the ground
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the rotary dial shifter cannot be operated at all. You must jump-start the 12V battery under the hood using the jump terminals. The EV6 does not have a mechanical shift lock override button because the entire shifter is electronic. Once jumped, you can shift to N normally.

CRITICAL: The EV6 must be flatbed towed with all four wheels off the ground. Do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground - the electric motors are always connected to the wheels and towing will generate voltage that can damage the high-voltage system. Even in N, dollies or flatbed only. If you must roll it a few feet onto a flatbed, activate 'Transportation Mode' in the vehicle settings menu (Service menu) if the vehicle has enough 12V power to access infotainment - this disconnects the motor controllers.
