🚨 2025 Kia PV5: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Kia PV5 uses an electronic shift-by-wire system typical of Kia's latest EV platform, likely a column-mounted stalk or console electronic selector.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chock the wheels.
  2. Access the 12V battery (typically under the hood or in a service compartment) and connect an external jump pack or charger to restore minimal electrical power.
  3. With 12V power restored, press the brake pedal and press the power button to enter accessory or ON mode (do not start the drive system).
  4. Press the brake pedal firmly and shift to Neutral using the electronic shifter.
  5. If 12V power cannot be restored, the PV5 must be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground—do not attempt to manually override the parking pawl without power.
With zero electrical power
Without any 12V power, the electronic shifter and parking pawl release will not function. The transmission cannot be manually shifted to neutral. A jump pack or external 12V source is mandatory to energize the shift system. If this is not possible, flatbed towing with all wheels off the ground is required.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The PV5 is a pure EV with no separate transmission—never tow with any wheels on the ground unless in proper tow mode (neutral with 12V power active). Towing with drive wheels on the ground without power will cause severe motor/inverter damage. Always use a flatbed or wheel-lift with rear wheels raised and front wheels on dollies.
