🚨 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 Sorento Hybrid uses a traditional console-mounted electronic shift lever with a button on the side for shift lock override access.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if possible (even with weak battery, attempt this first).
- Locate the small rectangular shift lock override cover on the left side of the shifter base, adjacent to the shift lever.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the shift lock override cover.
- Insert the screwdriver or a key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if any power is available) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If completely no power, keep override pressed and manually move shifter to Neutral - it should release with override depressed.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can roll freely - maintain constant control.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock override will still mechanically release the shifter. You will not see any gear indicator lights, but the mechanical release allows movement to Neutral. The hybrid system will be completely off. If the electronic parking brake was engaged and battery is dead, the EPB may remain locked - see owner's manual for EPB manual release procedure before attempting to move vehicle.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: This is a hybrid with high-voltage battery system. If towing, the vehicle MUST be flatbedded with all wheels off the ground or on dollies. DO NOT tow with drive wheels on the ground - the electric motor is mechanically connected to the drivetrain and towing with wheels down will generate uncontrolled voltage that can damage the hybrid system and create fire risk. Ensure hybrid system is fully OFF before flatbed loading.
