🚨 2026 Kia Sorento PHEV: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 Sorento PHEV uses a conventional electronic console-mounted shift lever with a shift-lock button on the lever itself.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Locate the shift-lock override access—it's a small rectangular cover to the left of the shifter base on the console.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
- Insert the metal end of the ignition key (or a small flat screwdriver) straight down into the override slot while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the lever to Neutral.
- If the 12V battery is completely dead and the electronic parking brake (EPB) is engaged, you will need to jump-start the 12V battery first to release the EPB before the vehicle can roll.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic parking brake cannot be released electronically. You must jump-start the 12V auxiliary battery (located in the cargo area under the floor) to release the EPB before the vehicle can be moved. The shift-lock override will work mechanically even without power.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The Sorento PHEV has no specific tow mode for flat-towing. With the high-voltage system inactive and the vehicle in Neutral, the electric motor may still generate resistance. For distances over a few feet, flatbed towing is strongly recommended to avoid damage to the hybrid drivetrain components.
