⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly (use manual pull if electronic brake is non-functional).
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON if possible (press START button without brake pedal twice).
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small rectangular slot with a plastic cover on the left side of the shifter base, near the console trim.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key from your key fob to pry off the plastic cover.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If the electronic parking brake is engaged and non-functional, you may need to release it manually (see owner's manual for EPB manual release procedure) or prepare for flatbed towing.

With no 12V power, the shift lock override will still function mechanically. Use the physical key blade to access the override slot. However, the electronic parking brake cannot be released without power—vehicle must be loaded onto flatbed with rear wheels off ground or EPB manually released per service procedures.
