🚨 2016 Lada Vesta: Emergency Neutral

The 2016 Lada Vesta with automatic transmission uses a console-mounted floor shifter with electronic shift interlock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if possible (battery power needed for normal shift release)
  3. Firmly depress the brake pedal
  4. Move the shifter from Park to Neutral
  5. If the brake pedal does not release the shifter, locate the shift lock override slot near the shifter base
  6. Remove the small plastic cover near the shifter (typically forward or to the side of the shifter base)
  7. Insert a flathead screwdriver or the key into the override slot
  8. Press down on the override release while moving the shifter to Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Look for a small removable plastic cap near the base of the console shifter, typically forward of or adjacent to the shifter lever. The exact location may vary slightly by trim level.
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the shift interlock will prevent movement from Park. You must use the shift lock override slot: remove the small plastic cap near the shifter base, insert a key or screwdriver into the release slot, press down, and shift to Neutral. The override is mechanical and does not require battery power.
