🚨 2011 Lamborghini Aventador: Emergency Neutral

The 2011 Aventador uses a push-button gear selector system located on the center console with electronic actuation via the ISR (Independent Shifting Rod) automated manual transmission.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is securely chocked—the Aventador has no traditional parking pawl in Park
  2. Attempt to connect a battery jumper pack or charger to restore minimal electrical power, as the transmission control unit requires power to shift
  3. With power restored, press the brake pedal and press the 'N' (Neutral) button on the center console selector
  4. If the system responds, the transmission will engage Neutral and display 'N' on the instrument cluster
  5. If no power can be restored, access the transmission control unit directly: this requires removing the center console tunnel cover in the cabin
  6. The ISR transmission has a mechanical emergency release—locate the manual shift actuator access point beneath the console (between the seats)
  7. Using the emergency tool (if available) or a suitable hex key, manually rotate the shift actuator to the Neutral position following the service manual diagram
  8. Verify Neutral engagement before attempting to move the vehicle
Shift-lock override location
No simple shift-lock override slot exists; emergency shifting requires accessing the ISR transmission mechanical actuator beneath the center console tunnel, requiring partial interior disassembly
With zero electrical power
The Aventador's ISR transmission is fully electronic with no conventional mechanical linkage. Without 12V power, you MUST access the manual shift actuator under the center console. This is a complex procedure requiring tool access and knowledge of the actuator position. If unable to restore power or access the actuator, the vehicle MUST be flatbed towed with all wheels off the ground—do NOT attempt to dolly tow. The lack of a Park pawl means chocking is critical.
