The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on a level surface or properly chocked.
- Remove the small plastic cover cap located on the center console directly adjacent to the shifter base (typically on the left or front side of the shifter gate).
- Insert a flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the exposed shift-lock override slot.
- While pressing down firmly on the override release, press the brake pedal if any electrical power is available, and move the shifter to neutral.
- If no electrical power is available, continue to hold the override release down while manually moving the shifter through its gate to neutral without pressing the brake.
- Replace the override cover cap after successfully shifting to neutral.
