The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and parking brake is engaged
- Locate the shift-lock override slot on the center console near the shifter base (typically a small covered slot on the right side of the shifter assembly)
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to remove the override slot cover
- Insert the key or screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter from Park to Neutral
- If no electrical power is available, you may need to jump the 12V battery terminals under the front hood to provide minimal power for the shift-lock solenoid to release
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or loaded onto a flatbed
